Our association with VIY goes back some 6yrs to 2014 when we were lucky enough to have our application for funding granted.
VIY were instrumental in assisting us to convert two changing rooms into four changing rooms that enabled us to play two rugby games simultaneously.
We also converted one room that was merely a dumping ground into what we now know as Tommy's lounge named after the Portico Vine legend Tommy Greenhall, where we can now hold committee meetings DBS training & first aid training sessions.
Our present day VIY project couldn't be more different than our previous one,
this time there's a huge amount of cosmetic work.
We've been painting & decorating endless sanding down and undercoating before applying gallons of green & white gloss paint also we've had new lighting installed and a new kitchen.
The VIY philosophy is to encourage club volunteers and to get as many people involved as possible enabling those young volunteers 14yrs+ to be awarded city & guilds accreditations via the VIY mentoring scheme.
The mentor's encourage the volunteers with positive engagement and the use of their skill base knowledge.
Our club volunteers have completely changed the internal look of our club it's a total revelation and on a personal note I can't thank them enough.
Both the chairman & myself are completely blown away by the endeavours of everyone and we have always been very proud of our club volunteers.
But when you consider the type of year 2020 has created it is an even bigger achievement so please never underestimate what an achievement this VIY project really is.
Where would we be without our club volunteers...?
Regards
Billy Vaughan.
