BUSY DOING NOTHING - CAPTAIN BILLY VAUGHAN

U16S WIN THE DIVISION 3 LEAGUE!!

PORTICO 22 VS SHEVINGTON SHARKS

Busy Doing Nothing

After going through an incredible turbulent time over the last two years, our tremendous u16s had quite a day today.

Let's go back in time sat on the fields at Scholes Lane, I was trying to restore their self believe and raise their moral, by telling them that we all believed in them and in time their confidence would rise again.

Their faces were hollow they'd just lost their coach, Kieron Lacey.

But then Neil Kenny had thrown his hat into the ring and said I'll coach the boys with the rest of the coaching team supported by Nadine and Nikki (who'd argue with those two ladies)

I spoke to the lads again, and I saw and heard a different set of lads.

They were upbeat and had a new sense of belief , not just in themselves but also in all those around them.

This was a new dawn.

Some new faces arrived, and some old faces came back.

I watched some training sessions, and everyone seemed to be on board with all that Neil and his team were asking.

I listened to the parents on match days, as they stood on the sidelines, and they all got behind the team, and the coaches there was a new unity about this team that was reflecting around everyone.

I always believe the senior members of the club should make an effort to speak and positively engage with players, as they need that and deserve that.

These boys have shown me nothing but the uppermost respect and a mere smile, and a hand shake goes a long way.

Winning the league today was a bonus because even if they hadn't won, these lads are winners.

They stayed together, and they had faith in Neil and his team they had faith themselves they have become a true team with true team spirits, and I'm proud of you all.

We gave them a standing ovation when they left the field of play, and it took me back to those hollow faces that were now beaming with pride.

What a journey these young men have had, and I just hope it's not over.

Regards
